The work(shop) is spatially designed in a simple and open layout, allowing the metal master himself to populate his identity in the space, as well as provide flexibility for the space to occupy different activities.
The Memory Archive consists of a series of free form customizable shelves, allowing for the space to be ever changing as the objects and archive material accumulate through time. As this is a public space, it is a journey for people to discover and reminisce about the mundane objects in the ordinary, changing the archive into a personal volume.

This is a project about metal craftsmanship resisting obsolescence through the distribution of artifacts crafted by the metal craftsmen. Acknowledging that inevitably, the skills of the craft will go down with the masters death, but providing spaces where the objects can be archived and distributed for use by the surrounding community.

The Memory Archive is a bespoke depot that honors the diversity of physical objects that the metal Masters have crafted as well as the public’s findings around metal craftsmanship. It is a space for contemplation for those who’s lives were once surrounded by this crafts through everyday object.

The panels represent an unmistakable local shape found in metal shutters and letter boxes. Two perforated old chinese coins representing good luck. Perforations in the panels follow the sunlight exposure onto the site, creating a broad visual timeline whereby panels where there is shadow are much more heavily perforated than areas of sun exposure.
